CareOregon Awards $175,000 to Neighborhood Health Center

PORTLAND, Ore., December 21, 2022 – Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) announced today a $175,000 grant from CareOregon to support the organization’s recruiting and retention efforts. The grant will help offset the cost of a recent market adjusted pay increase for NHC staff.

“Like other organizations in the healthcare industry, recruiting and retaining staff at NHC is critical to our mission and quality of service, and CareOregon recognized that need,” explained Jeri Weeks, NHC’s Chief Executive Officer. “This award will help NHC compete with private sector healthcare for employees, retain our workforce, and better serve our patients,” she added.

NHC conducted an organization-wide market analysis in June of 2022 to ensure positions are meeting equitable pay standards, fair compensation is offered for staff, and that the organization is positioned to provide pay transparency.

CareOregon is a nonprofit organization providing healthcare services to Oregonians, most of whom are insured through the Oregon Health Plan. NHC got its start under CareOregon, and the two organizations have maintained an ongoing partnership to serve both organizations’ missions of providing quality healthcare to at-risk, uninsured, and underinsured Oregonians.

NHC has over 200 staff and is expanding rapidly as the demand for high quality, low or no cost healthcare increases in the Portland metro area.

ABOUT NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH CENTER:

Founded in 2010, Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which provides accessible, affordable, culturally, and linguistically appropriate care, offering patients primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services at locations in Washington and Clackamas counties in Oregon. NHC’s 10 clinics and 215+ employees serve over 20,000 patients annually. NHC’s mission is to build healthy communities – one neighbor at a time – through patient-centered healthcare, regardless of income or current state of wellness. NHC’s patient-centered approach to healthcare honors the unique needs and circumstances of each individual patient. NHC sees people, not problems, and recognizes that the time spent as a patient in a clinician’s office is only one factor in a person’s overall health. Our patient-centered, integrated clinical teams work in partnership with patients, their families, and the communities we serve to provide whole-person care, prevention, and ongoing support.
