This position provides adult and pediatric phlebotomy services to patients in order to provide diagnostic information for use in our patient care. This person works closely with the clinic team to ensure immediate, courteous, and comprehensive responses to requests for service, or concerns about specimens and related matters. This person ensures proper collection and processing of laboratory specimens (or patient samples).

Essential job duties:

  • Correctly and accurately identifies patients, collects, and labels blood and other patient specimens, and enters data into computer according to federal, state, and local regulations and policies
  • Performs venipuncture and capillary collection on patient of all ages with minimal patient discomfort or repeat punctures due to inadequate specimens, quantity, or quality; and provides appropriate post-care of phlebotomy site
  • Reviews the laboratory schedule and verifies and completes orders; determines specimen requirements and collects patient samples; monitors and resolves orders in the electronic health record

Education and experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy or medical assisting program required
  • Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy, specimen handling, central processing, or medical assisting required
  • Ability to fluently communicate in Spanish is a plus
