School-Based Health Centers

Confidential Care for Students

NHC’s school-based health centers (SBHCs) offer a unique healthcare model in which comprehensive physical, mental and preventive health services are provided to youth in a school setting. Our providers see kids who otherwise would not get care and help students get back to the classroom faster.

Services Offered

  • Care for any Merlo Station Campus and Tualatin High School students (including CEYP children) in need of medical and/or mental health services, regardless of insurance status
  • Diagnosis and treatment of minor illness, injuries, colds, ear infections, rashes, asthma, and sinus infections (may include limited labs or prescriptions)
  • Wellness/health physical exams or check-ups
  • Sports physicals
  • Immunizations
  • Blood pressure or vision screenings
  • Health counseling
  • Addressing safe and responsible sexuality, contraception, and testing for pregnancy
  • Behavioral healthcare

Our SBHCs are separate from school nurses and are run by NHC within Beaverton School District's and Tualatin-Tigard School District’s guidelines, with support from the Washington County Health Department.

Students are encouraged to make an appointment ahead of time, but walk-in appointments are available.

Appointments are available at Merlo Station SBHC to all enrolled Beaverton School District students and at Tualatin HS SBHC to all enrolled Tualatin-Tigard School District students.

Your Privacy Matters

All meetings are confidential according to HIPAA guidelines, unless there is a concern for imminent danger to self or others, in which case the student will be made aware of the need to breach confidentiality.

SBHC staff will obtain written or verbal consent of a parent or legal guardian for general medical treatment if the patient is under 15 years of age.

Students may seek reproductive care and sexually transmitted infection services without parent/legal guardian consent, at any age. SBHC-related mental health services (outpatient services) may be provided to those 14 years or older without parent or legal guardian consent.

Students between the ages of 12 and 19 who visit an NHC SBHC may be asked to complete an anonymous survey after their visit. This survey asks about the student’s satisfaction and experience at the NHC SBHC, as well as some general questions about their physical and mental health status.

Behavioral Healthcare at the SBHCs

Part of our mission at NHC is meeting patients where they are, whether that be in their health journey or finding an appointment method that works best for them. Our Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) provide in-person and virtual visits to maximize the ways students can receive care. All students in the SBHCs's school-districts can receive behavioral healthcare at NHC, either in-person or virtually, as well as medical and reproductive care.
